Marianne Eigenheer

Landis & Gyr Stiftung Residency

Marianne Eigenheer was a Swiss artist and academic based between London and Basel. Trained as a pianist, the free and abstract lines in her work recall the lively movement of musical compositions. Her image-making has its roots in drawing, where the spontaneous gesture and subconscious act of drawing a line precedes the conscious decisions on formal content. As such, semi-abstract forms emerge from her drawings and paintings: dynamic, comic (and sometimes erotic) associations abound.

As well as exhibiting widely – both nationally and internationally – Marianne held numerous academic positions throughout her lifetime, including Artistic Director of IAAB/CMS in Basel, Switzerland; Professor at the School of Art and Design, Offenbach, Germany; and Professor at ICE (Institute for Curatorship and Education), ECA, Edinburgh.

Landis & Gyr Stiftung, Switzerland

The Landis & Gyr foundation awards studio scholarships to Swiss artists and cultural professionals in London, Budapest, Sofia and Zug. Its London-based residency partnership with Acme was established in 1987, and provides six month long work/live opportunities for ten Swiss artists per year. Artists are selected for the programme directly by Landis & Gyr Stiftung and must demonstrate a track record of achievement in their field. Over two hundred visual artists, curators, writers, musicians and composers have benefitted from the programme. Residencies are based in Stepney, E1 and are available to Swiss residents only
