Catherine Sheedy

Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec (CALQ) Residency

Catherine Sheedy makes contemporary jewellery, sculpture and installation works. Catherine’s jewellery is made with the consideration that body of the wearer is integral to the works themselves, and her process-based practice often tests the furthest limits of the properties of a chosen material, playing intuitively with its components until shapes and themes are evoked. Catherine’s works explore myths, natural formations and familial histories.

Catherine has participated in several national and international exhibitions, residencies and experimental workshops. She has received numerous prizes and grants, including the Metal Arts Guild of Canada Steel Trophy Award 2013 and the 2017 Jean-Marie Gauvreau Award, the higher distinction given by the Quebec Craft Council. Catherine is represented by Noel Guyomarc’h Gallery, in Montreal City.

Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec (CALQ)

In 2008-2009, in partnership with Québec's Ministry of Culture and Communications and the Ministry of International Relations and the Francophonie, and on the recommendation of Arts Council England, Conseil des arts et des lettres (CALQ) approached Acme to establish the Québec Studio in London, thereby expanding the network of residencies offered abroad to Québec artists and writers. The residency provides two six month long residencies per year in Bow, E3 for artists who have at least 10 years' experience of professional practice. Applications and selection are undertaken directly by CALQ.
